Autumn in West London

I took a long walk the other day, starting in a very lovely and very wealthy neighborhood called South Kensington.

Then further south, almost to the river, and east, until I stumbled onto Buckingham Palace, of all places.

I find it a bit foreboding, actually. It’s a severe space, surrounded by a high metal fence crowded with visitors trying to get a good glimpse. If you’re too close it can feel a bit like an inverted prison. Sooner or later I’ll try to get back for the changing of the guard – maybe when Emily and Hannah come visit in a couple of weeks? I haven’t been since I was 14!

From Buckingham Palace I walked along the Mall toward Trafalger Square. The leaves were changing in the park, and I had my first real sense of autumn in London.

Those last two photos are dedicated to Burke and Darragh, each of whom has a really wonderful attachment to the colors of fall.
